Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 87.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2030
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux has a light, earthy bouquet with simple red fruit that lacks the vigour of the '25. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, gentle grip, fine acidity, but is just a little dry and short on the finish.

2025
Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2038
Tasting notes:
The 2025 Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux comes from a lieu-dit located in the village on two terroirs, the vines are between 40 and 60 years old and it contains 100% whole bunch. Yields were very small in this year. It has a relatively lush bouquet in context of the season, with black cherries, kirsch and light blueberry scents. The palate is quite tannic on the entry, firm at first, then loosening up with aeration. Not as ripe as previous cuvées that I have tasted, but that allows the granite terroir to come through on the finish.

2023
Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2039
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux has a plush nose with black cherry, mulberry and blueberry aromas. It's well defined but will clearly benefit from a few months in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, slightly brittle tannins and a fresh, focused, tightly wound finish. Give it a couple of years because this is a well-crafted Chénas.

2022
Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 93.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2042
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux contains one of my favorite bouquets from Domaine Anita: well-defined black cherries, raspberry and subtle oyster shell scents. Very focused. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannins, but there is a superb line of acidity keeping this fresh and tensile. Plush yet energetic on the finish, this is a superb Chénas crafted in a modern style that should age well in bottle.

Producer Commentary:
I had the pleasure of meeting former professional cyclist Anita Kuhnel for the first time during my trip. Her first vintage was in 2015, and she actually remarked how my review at the time was so encouraging. In fact, she repoured that maiden vintage, and it was even better! From her winery in Chénas, Kuhnel currently farms around 18 hectares in Moulin-à-Vent, Morgon, Chénas, Fleurie, Beaujolais and Beaujolais-Villages. Her vineyards contain high-density plantings of up to 10,000 vines per hectare, with some vines up to a century old, tended with minimal synthetic products. Her wines ferment in concrete vats with minimal use of SO2, employing different percentages of whole-cluster fruit with some use of barrels. She hit the headlines recently when a publication (no guesses who) awarded one of her wines a perfect score. Well, it’s not that. I’m not about to compare it with a bona fide perfect wine like a 1999 Romanée-Conti. The reality is that Kuhnel crafts really delicious, relatively opulent expressions of Gamay that benefit from cellaring. There is a vivid, luscious quality to her cuvées that I truly appreciate.

2016
Chénas Cuvée P'tit Co Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 90.0
Drinking window: 2020 - 2025
Tasting notes:
Brilliant ruby. Mineral-accented raspberry, cherry and licorice aromas show very good clarity and pick up a hint of white pepper with air. Offers juicy, nicely concentrated red fruit flavors that deepen steadily through the mid-palate. Blends power and finesse smoothly, finishing sappy, subtly sweet and long, with just a touch of fine-grained tannins.

Moulin À Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2037
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Moulin-à-Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves has the most clarity on the nose among the four wines from this appellation, with vivid raspberry and blackcurrant scents, black tea and white pepper emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, with "juicy" ripe tannins, a keen line of acidity and plenty of substance towards the finish. Not quite as good as the previous vintage, but only by a whisker.

2024
Moulin À Vent Reine De Nuit
Color: Red
Score: 86.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2032
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Moulin-à-Vent Reine de Nuit comes across a bit muddled on the nose compared to other cuvées, quite reductive but not quite clicking. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, quite a solid Moulin-à-Vent, but the finish lacks vigour and complexity.

2024
Moulin À Vent La Rochelle
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2028 - 2037
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle needs to shake off a bit of reduction on the nose, with clean red cherry and blackcurrant fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, but there is decent backbone to this Moulin-à-Vent that leaves it rather Morgon-like on the finish. Give it a year in bottle.

2024
Moulin À Vent Coeur De Vigneronne
Color: Red
Score: 89.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2032
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Vigneronne has a light nose with blackberry and bergamot scents, tightly coiled but opening with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity, layers of dark chocolate-tinged red fruit and a nicely composed finish. Enjoy over four or five years.

2024
Fleurie Les Moriers
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2037
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Fleurie Les Moriers is one cuvée that just feels a little smudged on the nose, with black cherries and boysenberry fruit. The palate is more composed, with tangerine-tinged black fruit, quite strict tannins, good acidity and a dash of white pepper on the finish. Give this a year in bottle.

2024
Morgon Château Gaillard
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2028 - 2037
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Morgon Château-Gaillard has a lovely bouquet, with floral, rose petal scents suffusing the ebullient red berry fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite structured, with tightly wound citrusy black fruit leading to a structured yet detailed, saline finish. Very fine.

2024
Morgon Prestige Le Clachet
Color: Red
Score: 90.0
Drinking window: 2029 - 2038
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Morgon Prestige Le Clachet has quite an intense nose in the context of the vintage: blackberry and blueberry fruit, iris flower and a touch of tangerine loitering in the background. The palate is ripe and quite intense, with black cherries, cassis and white pepper notes. Good backbone here, though backward, and one of the few Morgon '24s that deserve a couple of years in the cellar.

2024
Fleurie Poncié
Color: Red
Score: 89.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2032
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Fleurie Poncié has a lifted cassis and raspberry coulis-scented bouquet that is clean and pure. The palate is sweet and candied on the entry, with juicy red cherry and raspberry fruit, though unlike the 2023 it just lacks a bit of sustain on the finish. Enjoy this Fleurie over the next five years or so and give it a decant.

2024
Chénas Cuvée Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 90.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2035
Tasting notes:
The 2024 Chénas Cuvée Les Brureaux is completely de-stemmed and fermented in concrete. This has quite a strict nose that needs coaxing, mainly black fruit, a little herbaceous in style compared with the previous vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with a flinty opening. Modest depth, nicely focused, there is plenty of freshness in situ with a healthy dash of cracked black pepper towards the finish.

Fleurie Poncié
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2036
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Fleurie Poncié has a flamboyant bouquet with blueberry and violet scents billowing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry and redcurrant notes laced with orange rind and hints of brown spice. Quite structured for a Fleurie, this has decent grip and a persistent finish. The 2023 is excellent.

2023
Moulin À Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2040
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves has an open, delineated bouquet with cassis, blackcurrant and a subtle marine scent emerging with time. The palate is harmonious, silky smooth and a little edgier than the Coeur de Vigneronne cuvée. This has a nicely structured, persistent finish. The 2023 is excellent and perhaps has the edge over the 2022.

2023
Moulin À Vent La Rochelle
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2038
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle was very reduced on the nose, although there are black plummy fruit aromas coiled up here. The palate is plush and luxurious. Its acidity counters the richness of the 2023 acts more like a 2022! Kirsch and blood orange notes arise toward the finish as it gradually fans out. This is an intense Gamay that requires a couple of years in bottle.

2023
Moulin À Vent Coeur De Vigneronne
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2036
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Vigneronne has a bouquet even more elegant than the 2022. Pure black cherry, cassis and pressed violet petal scents percolate through with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, harmonious and lightly spiced, with smooth, pliant tannins. Like other vintages, this is not a subtle or understated Moulin-à-Vent, but this is so pure and seductive that it's difficult to resist. You have been warned!

Morgon Prestige "Le Clachet"
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2038
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Morgon Prestige "Le Clachet" felt reductive on the nose, making the aromatics difficult to read. The palate is medium-bodied with a touch of bitter cherry on the entry, fine depth and focus. It's quite structured with a saturated, fleshy finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle if you know what's good for you (and the wine).

2023
Fleurie Les Moriers
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2039
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Fleurie Les Moriers is quite reductive on the nose and will benefit from bottle age and decanting. The palate is velvety smooth on the entry with plush tannins. This is quite opulent in style with black cherry and cassis notes. The 2023 is a flamboyant Fleurie sculpted in a modern style. It's well-crafted but one for the cellar.

Chénas Cuvée Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 90.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2035
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Chénas Cuvée Les Brureaux has a broader nose than the P'tit Co cuvée. This features blackberry and pressed iris flower aromas and hints of mandarin in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a dab of dark chocolate on the entry and fine depth. This is a lively Chénas with a hint of espresso on the finish. It's very fine, though I personally find more detail in the aforementioned P'tit Co Chénas.

2022
Moulin À Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2042
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, hints of marmalade and blood orange. The palate is medium-bodied with another rich and dense entry, though there is countervailing acidity and at least good structure beneath the layers of black creamy fruit. Not a subtle wine, yet this is bound to be seductive. I would leave it for two or three years for the tannins to soften.

2022
Moulin À Vent Reine De Nuit
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2025 - 2040
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Reine de Nuit works much better on the nose compared to the Coeur de Vigneronne, better delineation and more freshness. The palate is well balanced with ripe tannins, fresh with firm grip. It’s powerful and arguably not a subtle Moulin-à-Vent, showing a fine "bite" on the finish with the elegance that's lacking in the aforementioned cuvée. This is much more like it.

2023
Moulin À Vent Reine De Nuit
Color: Red
Score: 91.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2040
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Moulin-à-Vent Reine de Nuit comes from granitic soils exposed to the southwest from 40-year-old vines, the fruit picked early in the morning. It underwent a semi-carbonic maceration and matured in concrete vats. The nose is quite backward at the moment, a touch of wet granite infusing the dark plummy fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite grippy in style, a solid Moulin-à-Vent that just needs time to shave its edges.

Moulin À Vent La Rochelle
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2027 - 2042
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Moulin-à-Vent La Rochelle is completely destemmed, blended with 10% pressed wine and aged in Burgundy pièces. The nose takes time to open in the glass but rewards patience with black plum, boysenberry and wilted iris flowers. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite tensile with a keen line of acidity and harmonious on the finish that is quite Côte d'Or (Morey specifically) in style.

Moulin À Vent Coeur De Vigneronne
Color: Red
Score: 94.0
Drinking window: 2024 - 2040
Tasting notes:
I tasted the 2015 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Vigneronne at a dinner during my stay in the region. This is showing beautifully with plush red cherries, crushed strawberry, orange liqueur and hints of vanilla on the sumptuous nose, managing to retain impressive delineation. The palate is like putting on a cashmere sweater. Silky smooth with wonderful depth and roundness, it caresses the senses, inviting red fruit laced with allspice and a hint of cinnamon, fanning out without overpowering on the finish. This is drinking so well now but has some years ahead.

Moulin À Vent Coeur De Vigneronne
Color: Red
Score: 92.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2040
Tasting notes:
I tasted the 2022 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Vigneronne on two occasions. This cuvée comes from 60-year-old vines and is completely destemmed before a relatively long élevage in barrel. It came across a little blowsy at the InterBeaujolais tasting, so I took the second bottle and gave it a one-hour decant at home. This was much better—forward, opulent and potent on the nose with layers of black plum and blueberry fruit. The palate is likewise reflective of the year's warm summer with glycerin-rich black fruit. This is a luxurious Beaujolais that will appeal to those who like a more hedonic style but delivered with panache. I bet it will age well (like the 2015).

Morgon Château Gaillard
Color: Red
Score: 90.5
Drinking window: 2027 - 2042
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Morgon Château-Gaillard is tighter on the nose than other cuvées, blackberry, briar and light scents of black olive percolating through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, grippy black cherries and orange sorbet notes. It’s actually quite Moulin-à-Vent in style with a dash of white pepper on the finish. Again, allow this bottle age to shave off the edges.

Fleurie Poncié
Color: Red
Score: 90.0
Drinking window: 2026 - 2038
Tasting notes:
The 2022 Fleurie Poncié has a concentrated nose with just a mote of over-ripeness that detracts from the definition displayed by the preceding Chénas. The palate is very sweet and candied on the entry—velvety smooth with red pastilles and hints of marmalade, gaining more depth toward the rather heady finish. It just needs a bit more restraint, but otherwise, it's quite delicious.

Chénas Prémium Les Brureaux
Color: Red
Score: 87.0
Drinking window: 2024 - 2030
Tasting notes:
The 2021 Chénas Les Brureaux offers quite crisp dark berry fruit on the nose with black olive touches coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. It just feels a little rigid, missing a bit of flow at the moment, though it may loosen up with another year in bottle. Not bad for the vintage.

Moulin À Vent Coeur De Vigneronne
Color: Red
Score: 88.0
Drinking window: 2024 - 2032
Tasting notes:
The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Coeur de Vigneronne has an open, delineated bouquet, a melange of red and black fruit with (again) commendable mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly more rustic tannins that the Domaine's other cuvées. It just misses some complexity and engagement on the finish. Not bad, but there are better from the Domaine this vintage.

Score: 89.0
Drinking window: 2023 - 2029
Tasting notes:
The 2021 Fleurie Poncié has a light nose with blackberry and wild strawberry scents, a little reserved like the domaine's Chénas. The palate is medium-bodied with more red fruit, citrus and fresh strawberry mixed with orange zest. It's lively and vibrant on the simple but effective finish. A delicious early-drinking Fleurie.

Moulin À Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves
Color: Red
Score: 93.0
Drinking window: 2025 - 2035
Tasting notes:
The 2021 Moulin-à-Vent Très Vieille Vigne Les Caves comes from vines over 80-years old. It has an almost surly, backward bouquet that despite encouragement is not coming out to play, with hints of pressed iris flower reluctantly emerging. The palate is worth investigating: lovely balance, fine acidity, assiduous use of oak and a vibrant finish. Cellar this for 3-4 years to allow the aromatics to develop and you should have a wonderful Moulin-à-Vent.
