Cellar Favorite: 2015 Domaine Mathilde et Yves Gangloff Côte-Rôtie La Barbarine

BY NEAL MARTIN | OCTOBER 6, 2025

The 2015 Côte-Rôtie La Barbarine is an exquisite Northern Rhône wine that, after a decade, is revving its engines, ready for a long and delicious life ahead. As an ardent admirer of Yves Gangloff, just like my colleague and Rhône reviewer, Nicolas Greinacher, and his predecessor, Josh Raynolds, I ordered this bottle from the list at Club Bâtard on a rainswept Sunday afternoon in Hong Kong. The nose immediately delivers everything you want from Côte-Rôtie: blackberry and boysenberry fruit, just as Raynolds mentioned in his original review, time perhaps accentuating the floral aspect as notes of iris flower and peony emerge. The tang of autumn bonfire and flint soon join the chorus line. The weightless palate has exquisite balance with perfectly acidity, vivid black fruit, crushed stone and black olive tapenade notes, veins of blue fruit seeping through with aeration. Precise, controlled and poised, the 2015 slips down the throat with ease whilst persistently reminding you that this will be even better in another decade. 95/Drink 2025-2050.
