1983 Prunotto Barbaresco Riserva

BY ANTONIO GALLONI | NOVEMBER 13, 2017

Prunotto’s 1983 Barbaresco Riserva is a real revelation. Dark, deep and impressively concentrated for a wine of its age, the 1983 is striking in its beauty.  Time in the decanter just brings out more of the wine’s character. Dark cherry, plum, leather, smoke and grilled herbs all develop in the glass, but it is the wine’s textural depth that is most remarkable. The 1983 was made by Beppe Colla, who, among other achievements, bottled one of the first single-vineyard Barolos in 1961 and was a leading figure in Piedmont’s first boom of quality wines that started around that time. 92/Drink 2017-2023
